The Sanctuary is located 12 miles south of Hot Springs on SD Highway 71 and Rocky Ford Road.
The Sanctuary continues our Founder's dream and announces its summer season of guided tours out to see the wild mustang herds. Founded in 1987 by the late Dayton O. Hyde, the Sanctuary is one of America's private wilderness areas located near Hot Springs in southwestern South Dakota. The Sanctuary is owned and operated by the Institute of Range and the American Mustang (IRAM) and is dedicated to giving America's unwanted mustang a forever life of freedom.
